We had an amazing time as part of Communion’s monthly residency at Rockwood Music Hall in New York. Check out some of the photos below, taken by Lea Wülferth.
We stopped by WFMU’s Jersey City station and had a great time with girl-group expert & darling DJ Sheila B! It was so much fun (and an honor!) to perform on her show, and to talk with her about the new record.
I took Atwood Magazine through my new album "Variety Hour" - track by track. 🍊 What they had to say about the record:
“…a brilliant amalgamation of the past and present: A bright, transformative record of identity and experience, femininity, life, love, and everything in-between.”
Head over to their site to read about each song!
My debut album “Variety Hour” is out now!
After releasing a number of EPs and singles over the years, it feels amazing to put out a full-length record. When I look back, it’s kind of overwhelming to think about all the hours, efforts, favors, late nights and love that went into these tracks. Each song is it’s own story, and I always imagined them flowing as if on a 1960s TV variety show, with the host (yours truly) tying it all together. I hope it brings you as much joy as it’s brought me to make this. ❤️
This record would not have been possible without the unbelievable love and support I am lucky to receive on a regular basis. To say I’m “grateful” is a gross understatement.
… to my amazing husband and #1 collaborator David, whose support is the definition of unwavering, who sacrificed sooooooo much sleep to help me bring these ideas to life, whose endless curiosity makes him not only a constant student but a true master at what he does. He produced, he arranged, he played instruments, he mixed, he tweaked, he conceptualized… he dove headfirst into this world with me, and I would not be able to do what I do without him.
… to my wonderful team and YouTooCanWoo studio family. Derek for the brilliant playing, gorgeous orchestration and brotherly support. Christine for being the most enthusiastic cheerleader, backup singer, manager, and hand-clapper extraordinaire. Eric (aka “Doc”) for bringing that soulful joy to the live set. Zach for that bass magic. Lea for the undying support. Robert for being an ideas-man for how to bring this to the world. Darius and Erin for making lovely details happen.
… to everyone to played a tambo, hit a drum, slapped a bass, programmed a sample and more. Over the years, there were a lot of collaborators that made these recordings into what they are.
… to my dearest family and friends for always listening and supporting what I love to do. Especially my son Desmond who has heard this record come together since before he was born.
… to you for being here with me on this journey!
My latest single “Back In Time” is streaming now on Soundcloud - thanks to a premiere over at Substream Magazine. While I was writing it, I kept envisioning New York City in black and white and a woman walking slowly and defiantly with this song in her head. If you dig it, make sure to pre-order “Variety Hour” now, coming out February 5th!

I can’t believe it's already 2019! It's a perfect time to reflect & be grateful for all the good times we had last year. To name just a few, my husband and I had a beautiful, healthy baby boy(!), we released a bunch of singles, and we announced our debut album “Variety Hour”! Click below so you can listen as soon as it's out on February 5th! 🍊
I am so excited to share this record with you. It is the first full-length Deidre & the Dark record, made over many, many hours with my favorite collaborators, with plenty of sweat and quite possibly a few tears, and I'm very proud of how it came out. The release countdown has begun!
Thank you so much for being here - your support means everything to the band, our team and me. I hope your new year is off to a great start!
